My favorite is the tiny air trap. You can't really make it out in the photo, but it's there. And for some reason it makes me laugh every time I see it. As always, CC is more than welcome. What has everyone else been making? I'm sick of looking at my marbles, I need something new!

Rounding Question Revisited

Hi Jim,

When using an Infinite Rim Mold go into the mold at an angle rather than vertical. Start out at about 30 to 45 degrees while rotating the glass in the hole. Then rotate the punty down (change the angle) until it's parallel to the surface of the mold - thus the marble is rotating horizontally in the hole. If the punty touches the mold then you're using a hole that is too big for the amount of glass in the gather. Move to a smaller hole and repeat the process. Reheat and round a couple of times using this process and it should end up being about 90 percent round. Punty off to the other end and repeat the process once or twice to round the other end. If you're using soft glass, finish it in a cherrywood mold.

rounding technique

I am getting grape shaped marbles instead of round ones. When I round the ends, they are both round but the middle of the marble is slightly elongated, so the thing end up looking ovoid like one of those green grapes. I can't get the same curvature all the way around. My theory is that maybe my initial gather is too small for the marble wells (I'm using an Infinite mold set) Any suggestions? - Thanks, Jim

A Question on cold polishing glass.

Can you cold polish surface inperfections off the glass when your finished.

Kinda spent alot of time on one and would like to salvage a minor inperfection issue. That being the punty let go, this one was really hot. Melting the table slightly, plastic on surface of marble residue burst into flames... recovered.. back in flame haha.

So my plastic folding table will melt.. just took more mass and heat as I was once again running around in circles saying
'wheres my tongs,, wheres my tongs'.

If you can sand it is there a type of paper polisher I should purchase? Obviously extremely fine?

Well my uncle wants to try to make me a glory hole, who am I to stop him?

Does anyone want to direct me to their favorite supplier for these materials?

Do I need a special nozzle going into the can or do I just pipe it in? are there any websites with good instructions?

I'm just curious how much glass it would take to make a marble. The reason I ask is I have quite a few pieces of cullet glass and was just wondering if any of those might be fashioned into a new marble??

Trouble with Cherry Wood Molds.

I made a couple cherry wood molds per Drew's book and am having a problem with them. What is happening is I am getting pieces of the charred wood sticking to the marble.

What causes this? I would like to use them for final finishing after the initial rounding with my graphite mold.

They are well soaked and don't float any longer.
